Q2W2 - Architectural Photography

Kevin Ng
http://1x.com/photo/26325.jpg
I like the different colors and the angle at which the rotunda is shot.

David Basulto
http://cdn.archdaily.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/718354490_ledus-visualization-view-from-barona-str-489x450.jpg
I like the point of view and how the sky is dark by the foreground is bright.,

Frank Gehry
http://0.tqn.com/d/architecture/1/0/b/m/WaltDisneyConcertHall52268353.Walt Disney Concert Hall.jpg
I like the way the building seems to flow through the flat nondescript concrete.

Ken Liong
http://www.pbase.com/image/109594237.jpg
I like how the flat wave is made out of individual panels. I also like the towers poking up through the glass.

http://huyhai.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/architektura_33.jpg
This photograph just looks so artistic to me. I like the busyness of this shot.

http://blog.geoffcaptain.com/2011/02/12/hearne-corp-architectural-photography/
I like the reflection of that deep blue color I also like the juxtaposition of the yellows with the blues.

Michael Small
http://shuttermike.com/arizona/phoenix/architecture-photography-chandler-gilbert-community-college-in-arizona.jpg
I like how the shot causes you to look through the little tunnel to the colorful wall behind.

Don Cochran
http://doncphoto.com/.jpg
I like the overall shape of the Museum in the picture. I also like the fact that this shot was shot during twilight.

http://schafphoto.typepad.com/.a/6a0115712c3d78970c0134803c1cca970c-500pi.jpg
I like how everything is bright and lit up even though its almost dark. I also like the face that the building feels like its inviting you in.

Rose Etherington
http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2008/07/squswoosh-pavilion-at-the-architectural-association-lfa2008_aapav_1.jpg
This picture is almost playful in the shapes of the pavilion. I also like the little bit of blue sky in the background.

The challenge will be to have interesting pictures when we are all shooting in the same area.

Midland Library would be a good place to shoot, I think. Also I could shoot at Mall 205.

Q2W1 - Landscape Photographers

To start my review of his work I must mention his work as a nondigital photographer, yes its true he does use the dusty old film cameras. The reason I think he does this is because of the colors that come through that don't come out in digital pictures.
Another thing about his pictures is that they seem to have human elements in them whether it be a bridge, or boat, or house, they all seem to have those subtle elements of civilization.
His pictures often use water as an element. In fact, most of his pictures have bodies of water in them.
He likes shooting in urban and rural environments in the United Kingdom.
He likes to accent colors like greens, blues, and purples. He does this by shooting dark grasses or a beach at sunset.
Here are some of his pictures:
Late summer
The depth of field is very deep,  however if it were me, I would not shoot this shot with the flowers
I like the range of colors: Blues, Greens, Purples, and Yellows
This shot feels pretty balanced.

Millennium Bridge, sunset
This shot has a deep depth of field. I probably would have left out the railing if it were me shooting
The range of colors: Oranges, Pinks, Reds, Greens, and Blues

Misty dawn, Elterwater
I really like this shot, it just feels so serene
The rock really make this shot work.
There is not really a large range of colors, however they work together.

Moonrise and sunset, Whitby
I like how the hills dip into this village
I also like the sea stretching out to the right
There are a lot of reds, greens, and yellows in this shot

Old Man Of Storr
I like the shadows but there may be too much.
Also their is not much range of color.

Stormy Weather, Saltburn Pier
I like this shot because of the action in the sea and the sky.
I also like the pink in the clouds.

Temenos, Middlebrough basin, 15 July 2010
I like the sun's reflection off of the water.

Tyne riverscape, twilight
I like the dark purple-ness of the sky while it looks like the city is alive with action.

Ullswater, autumn morning
This picture is almost soothing in its appearence.
The feeling of this picture is a chilly sunday morning camping.

Upper Thomason Foss
I like the stream that runs through the picture
I like the green of the moss on the rocks.

Week 10 - Landscape Locations

I think in my project I would like to shoot outside in a rural area such as estacada and I would also like to shoot up and around Multnomah Falls.
I could however go up to timberline and shoot Mount Hood. I have not finally decided but I am positive about my options.

Week 9 - Intro to Landscapes

ISO: 100
Aperture: f 25
Shutter Speed: 1/80
Date Shot: 10/17/11
Location: Back Parking Lot At PAA
Next time I would definitely take the picture when there was clouds in the sky. Because of the absence of clouds I compensated with the silhouette of the Dandelion.
ISO: 100
Aperture: f 22
Shutter Speed: 1/20
Date Shot: 10/17/11
Location: Back Parking Lot At PAA
I like this shot because of the hint of a building in the background.

ISO: 100
Aperture: f 25
Shutter Speed: 1/15
Date Shot: 10/17/11
Location: Back Parking Lot At PAA
I changed the color of the pavement and the whole picture in Photoshop using a plethora of techniques

Week 8 "Visual Elements Of Fall"

Aperture: f 5.6
Shutter Speed: 1/250
ISO: 200
Back Parking Lot
Date Shot: October 10, 2011
I liked the color before so I choose to shoot this flower. I think that the best element is the color.
I didn't do anything about the picture in Photoshop because I already loved the picture.
Maybe next time I would frame the flower on the left side to include more green foliage which makes a nice contrast with the pink.

Aperture: f 5.6
Shutter Speed: 1/800
ISO: 200
Location: Tree in the Parking Lot
Date Shot: October 10, 2011
I used an adjustment layer to brighten the picture and change the brown of the leaf to more of a dark orange. I also took out a brown spot in the light green leaf above it.
I think the best part of the leaf is the texture of the leaves and the range of greens and browns in the picture.
I think I would frame it differently and maybe shoot it on a sunny day with blue skies instead of the cold cloudy day it was.

Aperture: f 5.6
Shutter Speed: 1/400
ISO: 100
Location: Ledge by the band room.
Date: October 10, 2011
I used an adjustment layer to bring out the green in the moss and the leaves.
I like the shape of the leaves and the moss in the background.
I would maybe raise the aperture to include more background and moss.

Aperture: f 4.5
Shutter Speed: 1/400
ISO: 100
Location: Mrs. Neel's car in the parking lot.
Date: October 10, 2011
I used an adjustment layer to bring out the subtle shadows that we normally wouldn't see.
I thought that this picture was a good example of form in action. I can almost feel that twig in my fingers right now. Also I like the reflection off the windshield of the car.
I would maybe add more reflection.
Aperture: f 4.5
Shutter Speed: 1/1000
ISO: 800
Location: Flower Beds Behind School
Date: October 10,2011
I used an adjustment layer.
The color and form of the flower. It makes you feel almost romantically happy as you look at this beautiful flower.
I might find a shot and frame it with a little stem with the flower.

Week 7 Summary

This week we started by talking about the legal issues of photography such as, "Who owns a photo?" And what can you do legally with that photo. We also talked about the Respect Doctrine, how others will feel about this happening to them, and we came to the conclusion that you should always think about your  subject.
We discussed the pictures in the previous post, 5 photos of Fall, and we discussed about we need to think about the lines. So that people that are a little obsessive compulsive are not offended or put off by them.

Week 7 "Five Fall Images"

f 7.1
1/125
ISO 200
Outside The Side Entrance Of Portland Adventist Academy
Monday, October 3, 2010
I adjusted the colors a bit to make the flowers a bit more vibrant.
The best element I think is the big pink flower.
I would maybe do a close up on the flower.

f 8.0
1/125
ISO 200
Outside The Side Entrance Of Portland Adventist Academy.
Monday, October 3, 2010
Cropping and a little rotating
The leaves of different colors.
Next time I would shoot the tallest twig a little to the right. (To follow the rule of thirds)

f 11.0
1/320
ISO 200
Outside The Side Entrance Of Portland Adventist Academy.

Nothing.
The shadow of the tree.
Next time I would change the Aperture to blur out the background.

f 7.1
1/125
ISO 200
Outside The Side Entrance Of Portland Adventist Academy.
Monday, October 3, 2010
Cropped out much of the background to bring out the foreground.
The branches with the leaves.
Next time I would blur the background.

f 8.0
1/160
ISO 200
Outside The Side Entrance Of Portland Adventist Academy.

Rotated the shot to be more horizontal.
Next time I would shoot the tree in a long shot instead.

Converging Lines

Today I took one of my shots and used Photoshop to do some image correcting like taking out basic blemishes that I didn't want part of the shot. After that I cropped it and rotated it, using rulers to help line everything up straight. At the end of my editing, I used levels to brighten my picture and here is my final result.

5 Good Photos from Other People

I like this one because of the way the light comes through the trees in the twilight.

I like these two because they are both amazing the way the outlines of the people are there and the way the light moves around in an organic shaped line.

I love long shutter speed star shots. I especially like this one because of the building in the middleground.

I like this one because it is half day, half night and it looks cool.
